Oats Pancake

Oats pancake is very healthy breakfast and also it can be made in a very short time.


Ingredients:
  • Oats – 1 cup
  • Maida – 1 tsp
  • Baking powder – ½ tsp
  • Sugar – ½ cup
  • Butter milk – ½ cup
  • Vanilla essence – 1 tsp
  • Salt a pinch
  • Oil – 2 tsp
Procedure:
  1. Dry roast old fashioned oats and then grind it in a mixer grinder. Grind it to smooth powder.
  2. Then mix all the above mentioned ingredients. Make a thick batter
  3. Next heat a pan and then take a spoonful of batter and spread it on the pan. Cook it on both sides.
Notes:
Fresh fruits of your choice can also be added to pancake batter.

Simple Cabbage Stir fry

Cabbage shows special cholesterol lowering properties when it is steamed, the fiber related components in cabbage shows binding capacity with bile acids in the digestive tract and thus lowering cholesterol level. Even raw cabbage shows less cholesterol lowering properties than steamed cabbage. Researches shows cabbage is good in preventing cancer especially colon, prostate and bladder cancer. Short cooked or raw cabbage only has the cancer preventive property. Cabbage is rich in antioxidant and has anti-inflammatory properties. Cabbage juice helps to cure stomach ulcer.
Ingredients:

  • Cabbage  chopped – 1 cup
  • Green chilies – 2
  • Oil – 1 tsp
  • Mustard seeds – 1 tsp
  • Urad dhal – 1tsp
  • Curry leaves – 1 sprig
  • Salt to taste
Procedure:

  1. First heat oil in a pan, add mustard, urad dhal, curry leaves and split green chilies, fry for few seconds.
  2. And then add chopped cabbage and fry for few minutes until it cooked
  3. Finally add salt and switch off the stove.
Note: Add cooked moong dhal or sprouted moong dhal to make it more nutritious.

Snake Guard Puttu / Pudalangai Puttu

Snake guard is high in fiber it relieves constipation. Snake guard helps stimulates the production of body fluids, relieving dryness. It creates cooling effect in the body. Snake guard is considered useful in treating type 2 diabetes.
I got this recipe from my mom, snake guard puttu or pudalangai puttu is best accompaniment for kara kuzhambu and rice.
Ingredients:

  • Snake guard chopped – 1cup
  • Onion chopped – ½ cup
  • Ginger chopped – 1tsp
  • Garlic chopped – 1 tsp
  • Green chilies chopped – 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder – ½ tsp
  • Fried gram /pottu kadalai – ½ cup
  • Fennel seeds – 1 tsp
  • Oil – 3 tsp
  • Salt to taste
Procedure:

  1. First boil snake guard in hot water and when it is cooked squeeze extra water from snake guard.
  2. Then heat oil in a pan, add fennel seeds and then chopped onion and fry until it is translucent,
  3. Next add chopped ginger, garlic and green chilies. Fry it until the raw smell goes away.
  4. Then add boiled snake guard, turmeric powder, salt and stir it well.
  5. Take ½ cup of fried gram in a mixer grinder and grind it to a powder.
  6. Finally add powdered fried gram to the snake guard and mix it well. Cook under low flame until the vegetable is dry.
Note: Instead of fried gram can also use channa dhal.
