Omapodi

Omam or ajwain is very good for health. Ajwain is a beneficial herb and it is used in culinary process as spice as well as a major ingredient of different kind of medicines. Ajwain seeds are small in size but taste hot, penchant and bitter. It acts as good appetizer, laxative and stomachic. It is used as effective remedy in managing ailments like vomiting, mouth diseases, pile, treatment of ascites, abdominal tumor, abdominal pain etc.



Ingredients:

  • Besan flour – 1 cup
  • Rice flour – 1 tsp
  • Butter – 1 tsp
  • Omam (ajwain) – 1 tsp
  • Water – ¼ cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for deep frying
Procedure:

  1. Soak omam in hot water for 30 minutes and then strain water.
  2. Grind omam to paste and mix it with the besan flour, rice flour mixture .
  3. Add melted butter and make  dough using water. Then place the dough in the murukku maker( cookie press), use the omapodi achu and press it in the hot oil.
  4. Fry it in a medium flame or else it will be burnt easily.
