Oats porridge

Oats Porridge


Oats are considered healthy food after the discovery of their cholesterol reducing properties. Oats are the only cereal containing a globulin or legume like protein, avenalin as the major storage protein. Its good source of fiber, vitamin E and B, silica, iron, phosphorus, silica and calcium.
Before marriage I never tasted Oats in my life. After marriage, my MIL taught me how to make oat porridge with milk and sugar. It tastes just like payasam, so we made it once in a while. Then I read this recipe in a magazine, it involves adding buttermilk, cumin and salt to oats porridge. I tried it at once and it was a huge hit.  Now we are regularly having this porridge in our morning breakfast menu.

Ingredients:
·         Oats meal – 1 cup ( old fashioned or quick cooking oats)
·         Water – 2 cups
·         Butter milk – 1cup
·         Roasted Cumin powder – 1 tsp
·         Asafoetida – a pinch (optional)
·         Salt to taste.

Procedure:
1.       Boil water in a pan , then add old fashioned oats meal and cook for 10 minutes.
2.       Switch off the stove, add buttermilk and salt to taste
3.       Then add roasted cumin powder and a pinch of asafoetida.
4.       Serve it hot or cold.
